A Report from America: Chinese New Year in Washington | The Premiere Is So Extraordinary

““Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!”, the audience in the Kennedy Center Opera House burst into cheers. When firecrackers sounded on the stage and the family of “Tuan Tuan” and “Yuan Yuan” were immersed in the joy of celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, all the audience stood up to give warm applause and cheers to NBC’s artists.

Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, took the stage to give congratulations to the NBC’s artists.

Alicia Adams, Vice President of Dance and International Programming at the John·F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, gave her congratulations to NBC’s artists with excitement.

At 7:30 pm local time on January 29th, 2025 (the first day of the first lunar month in year of the snake), NBC premiered Chinese New Year on the stage of the John·F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, USA.

Before the first performance, Ambassador Xie Feng and Ms. Deborah F. Rutter, President of John·F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, gave a speech for the performance.

The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, under the conduct of Zhang Yi, the music director of the National Ballet of China, brought a wonderful live performance to the audience.

National Children’s Chorus, United States of America brought ethereal live chorus.

Director Feng Ying was invited to take the stage after the premiere to pay a curtain call to the audience together with the NBC dancers.

After the successful premiere, the dance programing team of the John·F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts also sent a handwritten blessing card.


In the front hall of the theater, NBC specially prepared costumes and illustrations for this tour attracted many American audiences.

As an important activity of the “Happy Spring Festival” series in 2025, NBC will continue to perform Chinese New Year in the United States until February 2nd. Welcome more audiences to watch our performances!
