Guardian Angel
Choreographer: Zheng Yu
For the first time to work in Ballet Workshop as a choreographer, the Principle Dancer of National Ballet of China Zheng Yu is inspired by those touching moments in the pandemic. The medical workers in the frontline of the battle against the pandemic are just like angels, guarding everyone from danger. Therefore, Zheng Yu expresses his reconsideration on his attitude toward life in Guardian Angel.
36.2
Choreographer: Hu Yang (Guest)
Hu Yang, from China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, presents his work 36.2 as a guest choreographer. Focusing on the "ordinary people" in the pandemic, this work expresses that everyone who fights against the pandemic is a hero in the face of the common challenge for humanity.
Embrace the Spring
Choreographer: Peng Jie
The same as Zheng Yu, this is also the first time of the young choreographer Peng Jie to work in the Ballet Workshop. Embrace the Spring is also performed by Peng Jie. Spring represents warmth and hope. When facing the difficulties, we use our own special way to fight it to meet the spring sunshine in our hearts.
About Rehearsal
We have already seen in the live broadcast "Practice Online" as well as trailer of Ballet Workshop that dancers of National Ballet of China all practice with masks. Some netizens are concerned that whether wearing masks will affect rehearsals.
The answer is YES! During the pandemic prevention and control period, the Company strictly manage the hours of using time and number of people in the rehearsal hall, sterilize regularly and every dancer is required to wear masks during the rehearsal. You can imagine that sitting indoors in a mask for half a day will make us suffocating, not to mention that dancers have to finish highly complex dance movements. During the 12-day rehearsal of this workshop, the choreographers and dancers overcame various difficulties and polished every movement and expression in rehearsal, just to present the best ballet to audience.
About Production
The form of online performance might be familiar to the audience, while it is a trial and challenge for the young choreographers of National Ballet of China who are trying to present the art of ballet in the form of video for the first time. In order to reflect the choreographers' intention as much as possible in the video images and reduce the weakening of the aesthetic feeling of the dance while giving full play to the advantages of the lens language, the choreographers tried learning to write shooting script, discussed and created with the film production team. After numerous modifications, we are witnessing the works from concept to formation to fullness and vividness, which condensing the painstaking efforts of all workshop members!
