For an original ballet, music plays a pivotal role. In the creation and rehearsal of A Dream of Red Mansions, the famous composer Ye Xiaogang was specially invited by the National Ballet of China to compose original music for it. Let's listen to his views.

"This is a dance drama music with Chinese classical romanticism, which shows the splendid picture of our national culture in the form of western music." Said Ye Xiaogang, Composor of the ballet version of A Dream of Red Mansions.
"The music for A Dream of Red Mansions shall be closely related to our national aesthetics with diverse configurations in terms of harmony, orchestration and instrumentation, which makes the music rich and not monotonous."
As the music for ballet dance, Ye Xiaogang has composed corresponding themes for several major characters such as "Jia Baoyu", "Lin Daiyu" and "Grandma Jia".

Ye Xiaogang collaborated with the National Ballet of China in 1986 on the creation of Across the Water, and again in 2008 on the creation of The Last Paradise, a ballet choreographed by the famous ballet master Roland Petit.
From 10 to 18 February at Beijing Tianqiao Theatre, let's look forward to the encounter of ballet, symphony and Chinese classical literature on the stage of A Dream of Red Mansions to create a new artistic inspiration!
